AIUI it's the law (my ansaphone has a record facility but it beeps every 30 secs or
so, so that you can't record someone without them knowing).

Also, it is far less likely that you'll get bullshitted - if someone knows they are
being recorded they tend to take much more care about what they tell you, and check
things rather than fob you off with any old crap.

I also use it with certain companies who seem to want to turn every phone call into a
sales pitch for something completely unrelated to what you were phoning about, and
sometimes sign you up even if you say no. When I record them they don't even attempt
it.
