Ours is a 4/5 bedroomed gas centrally heated property with electric oven
and gas hob. We have two of us living here permanently and our children
only call for day visits now and again with their own children.

Sheeeeeesh!
Ours costs £650.00'sh/ calendar month, gas, electric, phone food and
insurance.........that's only £149.00'sh per week. Methinks you have
included mortgage repayments or summat haven't you? As a BTW we are at
home all the time (extra costs in heating and cooking) except for holls
etc as we are early retirees.

Nope, we did our sums before we moved when we had two of my teenage boys
at home. It was a lot cheaper when they left to go to uni, on gas (no
half hour showers everyday- gas and water meter), on phone bills, and on
food. Heating worked out cheaper because we don't leave the doors and
windows open in winter etc....
Breakdown? House bills £300.00 per calendar month, consumeables (food
etc- weekly shop in other words) £74.00'sh (variable) a week.
The costs of running a house with kids (and careless parents) has been
documented recently in the SE on the TV showing where today's parents
just shell out for their kids lavish life styles. We are economical with
all forms of energy and utilities and review all bills annually to keep
costs down.
