It is indeed good practice to take readings on the dates of tariff
changes. Although I have a generally positive view of Powergen, I have
to say that I have received some daft estimates (for gas, but not for
electricity).

The stated increases are 9.7% for electricity and 18.4% for gas. The gas
tariffs are said to be uniform, regardless of region. But electricity
tariffs vary by region, and the stated 9.7% increase is a national
average. In my own case the electricity tariffs are up by 19.96%
(primary units) and 10.02% (secondary units), which means that the
weighted increase will be well in excess of the average national increase.
