There is usually a reference number. ie customer number etc. If the company
expects direct payments they havew a system to identify who has paid.
Companies include these numbers on the paying in slips they issue. Not sure
what happens if you use a regular slip though.
If the company has not got this set up I guess they would not know. When
paying our solicitor for house moving work IIRC we had to take in the
counterfoils if we paid direct to the bank.
