You could before the breakup of the Soviet Union buy incandescent bulbs
mad in Poland under several brand names that would last for decades.
When the Soviet Union broke up GE bought the Polish Manufacturer.
We had a bulb sold by the Fire Department, fund raiser, in the early
sixties on my Mother's porch up until 2 years ago, when it got broken.
It burned every night for all those years.
All bulbs manufactured in the US are made by GE and Phillips, I think
They are designed to burn out in very little time, so they can sell you
another bulb. I use to have to go all around the House replacing bulbs
every week or so.
I finally found some bulbs, made in China, sold by Harbor Freight
guaranteeing a ten year life. GE will undoubtedly demand that the
Chinese Manufacturer now meet US standards or buy the Manufacturer, like
Poland, if China will let them.
