Both gas and electric ovens and stoves are alive and well. Which is used is
a local decision. Gas has tended to be cheaper in recent years and so where
it is available, the gas and electric companies duke it out in the media
with "all gas" or "all electric" new homes. But now that gas prices (in the
midwest anyway) are rising rapidly, there's probably going to be more
electric.

Our new home has a gas cook top and electric double ovens based upon the
preference of those who do the cooking. Fuel availability and costs didn't
enter into the decision --- but they certainly will in future.
