What type of AC? Window or central? How big is the unit (BTU or TON)?

If it's a window unit, is it a 120V or 240V unit?

Define "dim". Is it a noticeable flicker or an actual dim (like 50%) that
actually lasts for a full second?

Without this information, you'll just get guesses like you have been
getting.
