This is Turtle.
You will have to check any city rules of appliances or what ever outside but I
will be speaking only on the work ability of the freezer chest type or up right.
Freezer are designed to be run in ambiants of 30ºF to 100ºF but some freezer
brands may tighten up this range but in general these are the ranges. If you run
the freezer outside these temperature ranges it will vilolate the warrent but
very few manufactors will say anything about.
Now running in temperatures below 30ºF : You run the risk of busting the valves
of the compressor with liquid flood back at these temp.s . Rare but can happen.
Now Running in temperatures above 100ºF : You can let it run in temps of up to
about 120ºF and still run but will put a strain on the system but if put in
direct sun lite it may stop working before you get to 120ºF. Now running in
temps above 120ºF , well i can't really say as to it working or not but at these
temps it will depend on the quality of the equipment and if it is designed to
take a beating and still run. What happens is when you get above the 120ºF point
the freezer btu rating begins to fall and most freezer start at about 1,000 btu
per hour rate and the btu rating can be cut in 1/2 and have to try to keep up
with only 500 btu per hour to keep the items frozen. If you keep the door shut
and don't go in it much during these hot times. Most will keep up but will run
all the time to do so. Now some will bite the dirt and stop and wait till nite
to start working again.
Now i will say this about the freezers. the Chest type usely will take the
freezing or 120ºF ambiant weather much better than the up right models with
blower fan and the chest type does not. Both will do as above but the chest type
is a little better at this problem.
