And most policies these days are either "as built" or "bare walls only",
which means that it doesn't cover upgrades like wood floors or any
permanent changes that the owner makes to the unit.

The best way is to check with the company that has your condo master
policy.  If you sign up with that company, they have some economies
due to overlapping coverage that can save you a lot of money, or at
least get much better coverage for the same money.
