The oldest assessor's records for our house call it "very cheap" 
construction.  Instead of high-quality plaster walls, they cheaped out 
and sheathed the entire interior with inch-thick tongue and groove old 
growth Doug fir from a local mill.  Really cheap construction back then, 
maybe, but better than anything I'd replace it with today.
