Subject: Foreign purchases and consumer credit act s75

I've been investigating the issue of whether purchases from retailers
outside the UK made using my UK credit cards are covered by section 75
of the consumer credit act. The legal position appears to be unclear,
and several sources say that HSBC, Sainsburys Bank and HBOS have all
indicated to the OFT that they will voluntarily honour any claims
relating to foreign purchases.
One source http://money.guardian.co.uk/experts/legal/story/0,11106,962332,00.html
says that MBNA will also honour claims, but I can not find any other
information to corroborate this. The article is also unclear about the
exact nature of MBNA's commitment - was it made to the OFT?
Does anyone have any further information? Is it correct that MBNA have
also agreed to honour section 75 claims along with the above 3 card
issuers? And is this position documented anywhere?
I frequently make purchases from abroad and need to know whether my
MBNA card affords me maximum protection, or whether I ought to be
applying for an alternative card.
