All the companies around here use a plastic banding strap to hold the block
together when they build prefab with either mortar or silicone (have you
ever picked up one of those 36x32? HEAVY!)If the window is too big to build
prefab and built on site, I have seen them built both ways. On a side note,
most businesses that are built around here with the huge picture window
fronts, the glaziers use silicone instead of the channels which once were
popular.
For me, either way would be fine as long as the job was a quality job. I
have seen some very sloppy silicone installations.
