My father and neighbors poured footings and floor for a garage using a hand
loaded cement mixer back in the 60's. As I recall, it was many days of
continuous hard work for several men. There was one person who did nothing
but load the mixer and one or two others who rolled wheelbarrows of concrete
to dump then into the forms. Nowadays, the cost of buying delivered
concrete would be trivial compared to that amount of labor. Check out the
cost per cubic yard. If you want to save some money you could possibly
build the forms yourself but you probably shouldn't consider mixing the
concrete yourself.
