I had no idea what mudjacking was, but googled it and found it's
when the foundation moves and gets damaged due to high water content
in the soil.

IMO, you need to have a competent person assess the existing damage
and then determine the cause. Whether fixing it is a DIY job or not
depends on what the cause is.

You're probably right in guessing the owners are sick of dealing
with it and just want out.
