I live in California (home of the public debt greater than
the budget of all other states combined), specifically I live
in the city of San Jose, center of the Silicon Valley.

Just a month ago, my torsion spring snapped (mine was a
single-spring system as described above and it was particularly
cold outside, about 40 degrees F). A local company fixed it for
$845 dollars, parts and labor included within two days of calling
for help. They spent about 4 hours in my garage (I wasn't home
but my wife said they were banging around all afternoon).

In my case, they replaced the single torsion spring with two smaller
torsion springs above the doorway (saying they couldn't warrantee
the single spring setup). They left with a three year warrantee on
"workmanship" (whatever that is), parts & call fee extra.

I didn't even know the job could be done for less than 845 dollars.
