It sounds to me that you handled this situation badly.
First step would have been to speak to the child directly about his 
behavior.  Then, if the behavior did not improve, then the next step would 
be to speak to the parents.  NOT write a letter and stick it ont heir door.  
Nope, face to face contact probably would have worked out much better.
