   We did this using paint stripper, then staining and finishing with
a poly urethane.  However, be prepared for wood that may not be uniform.
The finishes on kitchen cabinets is something a little different than
just a stain.
   Also, we took the pieces apart, hinges, drawer facings, handles.  But
it came out quite nice.  --Phil
