We ended up getting the Maytag Atlantis washer and dryer. It was
between that, and the old-school "Dependable Care" line. I was set on
the old-school dependables because they are going away and are
supposedly tanks. We were at the Maytag Store, and the manager seemed
very knowledgeable (he knew what plant produced particular models and
etc). He said that early Atlantis and Neptune's had problems and that
he was pretty confident that Maytag has resolved those problems.

Kicker is, that after some wheeling and dealing, I got them for $395
each which I think is a great price and they ended up being cheaper
than the Dependables which had far fewer features. But ours doesn't
have the stainless steel washer tub.

At least it will make Mom happy...
