Yes I do it all the time. Common strategy would be a long-short strategies
on industries, companies, markets etc in order to focus on the risk you are
interested in. e.g. you like BP but think oils will underperform you would
perhaps buy BP sell Shell and other oils or the sector index.
CFDs are only good for larger sized positions about £5k up because you have
to pay commission. Also good for long term positions. Smaller positions
can be taken by spread bets which are rolled over as no commission. You do
not need to combine the two or even at different companies. You can open as
many positions as your finances allow at the same company. They do not
care.
