Interests rates seem to have jumped the shark in mid June. I got
locked in with a 5.5% VA loan (which is usually a little higher than
standard rates) and when I closed on 6/23, the places that had been
advertising 5.5% VA were back up to 6% on VA loans. It seems to have
held fairly steady since then. The www.mortgagerate.com site has a
"Current Rates & News" page that's kept current. The quoted rate of
5.625% seems a tad high, but not unusually so, unless he's also paying
points.
